South Dakota Native Homeownership Coalition

In partnership with the South Dakota Native Homeownership Coalition (SDNHOC), Sweet Grass documented the coalition’s transformative impact in overcoming systemic barriers to Native homeownership. The report highlights remarkable progress—including over $30.5 million in loans closed, a 948% increase in trust land lending, the creation of 87 new homes, and the success of culturally tailored education and workforce development programs. It also showcases policy wins such as the USDA 502 Relending Pilot Program, VA Native American Direct Loan Bill, and reforms with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Together, these milestones reflect how SDNHOC is paving the way for sustainable homeownership and generational wealth for Native families across South Dakota.
