Cheyenne River voices: Our survey, our voice, our way

Cheyenne River Tribal Ventures and Northwest Area Foundation

Because federal census data was overlooking their community's needs, the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe launched their own survey in 2014 — the first of its kind for the reservation. In partnership with Cheyenne River Tribal Ventures and Northwest Area Foundation, Sweet Grass assisted in the management, methods, and reporting of the survey. Designed for the community, by the community, the research gathered data on a range of social, cultural, and economic factors, and informed the development of a blueprint for economic success called The People's Plan. The survey results continue to provide baseline data for tracking the impact of economic initiatives over time.
